ALP have pledged to phase out the sheep trade. Lib backbenchers are starting to rally behind Sussan Leys private members bill to do the same. But Ag Minister David Littleproud yesterday is still hanging onto the old arguments about refrigeration in the ME....oh please!!
Time he looked at his the government's own analysis in the situation as recorded as far back as 2014 in an ABARES report: "in the Middle East ‘substitutability between Australian live sheep and sheep meat imports has increased in recent years, largely reflecting growth in incomes, urbanisation, refrigeration availability and popularity of western style supermarkets. This is underscored by the experience regarding Bahrain, which stopped importing Australian sheep in 2014, after which sheepmeat import from Australia increased over two-fold.." CHECK OUT VALE's FACT SHEET - we did our economic homework ...and have sent to Minister Littleproud.

Its about time Mr Littleproud woke up to himself, the evidence is clear as day that this cruel and barbaric trade cannot continue the regulators cannot regulate it the exporter's don't give a toss about the regulations the agricultural department don't give a toss about the rules either, its absolutely disgusting the Australian people are not going to stand for it!! The live export business is far beyond broken and cannot be fixed the right and only thing to do is ban live exports for good ASAP!!!

Littleproud (the man with little to be proud of) appears to have some notion that he has acquitted himself well with his thundering about delinquent exporters a month ago. Since then? Nothing. A Whistleblowers' Hotline? Please. As if any crew members will be allowed to hold onto their phones once the hulks sail. A Shipboard Review ... by a hand-picked veterinarian who has worked for all the major exporters, over decades. As id he will say anything to compromise all his mates. business models. But politicians are getting nervous, they can see the writing on the wall in their seats, and the mood is shifting. Thanks to the thousands who have rallied in the last month in Hobart, Adelaide and Fremantle! WE ARE THE CHANGE!

Really interesting is that LSS are actually a Jordian company, , otherwise known as Hijazi Wa Ghoshe. They havevertically integrated with feedlots in both Oz and Jordan and slaughter houses in both. They own 9 abattoirs overseas - 6 in the Middle East, 2 in the Gulf and 1 in South Africa. Does anybody else see a conflict of interest in regards to chilled vs live export?
