Well it was predictable....an industry vet chosen for the review and a Minister who ignored the science to continue a trade that will cause suffering and death in thousands of sheep this Australian winter.
But what perhaps was not so predictable is that all vets, apart from those in industry, are in universal agreement and opposition to the sheep trade in May to October. Australian Veterinary Association (AVA): 4/4 of their recommendations ignored: "extremely disappointed" VALE: "window dressing", "recommendations completely ignore the science" Sentient: "Clearly the truth is too inconvenient to accept." and as for Dr Lynn Simpson, former shipboard veterinarian, well she has gone ballistic......."ignorant, defiant, stupid" All vets, apart from those who profit from the industry, are now on the same page. Veterinarians are one of the most trusted Australian professions....and the public look to us. Time politicians stopped ignoring us.....it will be to their peril.

The unity of our profession, what a fantastic by-product of this mess. Its heartening to see our profession acting selflessly and in a unified manner on what should be a concern for all of us. Thank you guys for supporting the fight on this very important battle. Thank you VALE for your tireless efforts to keep pushing with professional science and updates. This could well become one of Veterinary Sciences most important landmark movements of our lifetime. Regards and sincere thanks to all, Lynn Simpson

I remember having my comment that criticised live export and the cruel use of cattle prods on sheep to load them onto ships in a local paper (I live in Freo). The poor things were trying desperately to get away but of course only had a wall of sheep to run into. A live export vet replied saying he was sick of city tree huggers interfering in something they know nothing about. Live export is not cruel... This exposed the reality to me of what sort of people willingly work in this trade. But now they will have a tough time propping up this trade. My sleeves are rolled up, like the rest of us who are against this trade.

Agreed, it is so great to see vets uhifying over this. Let’s all keep on making a noise. We mustn’t let this be pushed onto the back burner.
