A good wet season and a record live export year, yet this is what "the dry" brings for cattle on some stations. Rain and feed are still several months away. A timely reminder to international tourists that Australia cares about its animals and has the best animal welfare in the world?

Looking at those emaciated animals is just heartbreaking. If they can't feed them, then they should be put down to end their suffering. This is animal cruelty. Has this matter been reported to the RSPCA or anyone else?

Yes the photographs were submitted to RSPCA. It is hard to know what action will be taken when the problem is not confined to one particular station / pastoral lease. Overstocking and rangeland deterioration has been noted in an official WA government report (see more recent blog). Poor animal welfare is thus not surprising.

Thanks for the response VALE. I've reported many incidents like this to the RSPCA over the years. Unfortunately the outcome of reporting any incidents is never known, unless published in the media.
