Unhappy with the new charges proposed by the Dept of Ag, Ms Penfold of Australian Live Exporters Council (ALEC) has requested "an urgent package of changes to offset the costs that now threaten the viability and sustainability of the live trade". Taxpayer funded changes?
ALEC question the efficiency of the department...and VALE would have to agree (nice to have some common ground). Perhaps DAFF would consider outsourcing the documentation and certification for live export to VALE. VALE would be most happy to provide a competitive tender and we could guarantee careful checking, diligence, timely turnarounds and meticulous filing for all certification, voyage reports etc at a fraction of the cost!

What a ridiculous suggestion. Why would VALE be seen as an appropriate certifying body for the industry. What a joke!!

Gee, Rohan, do you think it’s a joke? Let me see … We have an intimate knowledge of ASEL, the certification required and the law as it applies to live export, and among our members are veterinarians who have been employed in shipping/live export, livestock production and slaughter/meat hygiene and quality. Actually when you think about it we are eminently qualified to oversee certification at all levels of the chain.

Yes. I firmly maintain that it is a joke. Your organisation name renders you the sideline act that you currently aspire to be.

Hi Rohan. We’ve had a chat about it and we think you’re dead right. It’s time to change our name. Maybe something that reflects all the money we get from donations, like “We’re becoming hugely rich and don’t have anything better to do than to annoy people Inc.” Why, last month alone we raked in nearly a hundred dollars in non-tax-deductible donations! Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
