What our PM should be worrying about

Instead of worrying about footage of poor animal welfare being leaked by whistleblowers, our PM should be worried about the animal welfare that is the cause of this outrage.

Perhaps start with the other side of live export – outback cattle stations. Drought is no excuse. These animals should not be dying day after day. Drought management strategies exist in 21st century ... if animals are dying, they should have been shot. It's not as though they can walk far from the water. And they certainly can't walk far enough to get any last vestiges of the dry, useless 2017 grass, if any still exists.

And no, this is not Noonkanbah – and we have photos of more than one station. This is endemic. In good years, they get exported, in bad years, they die.

WARNING: the images below are confronting.

The sad truth is the government is unconcerned with any issue that does not generate votes. The farming lobby is disproportionately powerful in their influence on policy development compared to their contribution to the economy. On a positive note, animal activism is gaining momentum and more and more people are gaining awareness of the impact of the policies of the major parties on the environment and associated animal rights/welfare issues. These issues are becoming a mainstream platform for political campaigning and the sooner the main stakeholders realise this the better.

This is the side of drought that we do not see , obviously! This is appalling!! It's a terrible drought I know, it's affecting us down south also. I know farmings a lot tougher up north, but this is very sad to see such suffering!!!! This is not farming, this is neglect!!! I believe animal owners should be licensed and legally accountable for animal welfare!!!!

Decent empathetic Aussies are fed up with horrific unbearable cruelty to our voiceless animals....its 2019 not the dark ages....THIS IS INEXCUSABLE AND UNNECESSARY SUFFERING...JUDGE A COUNTRY ON HOW IT TREATS ANIMALS AND WE FAIL..STOP ALL ANIMAL SUFFERING AND LIVE EXPORTS...PROOF NOTHING IS DONE WITH RESPECT OR COMPASSION TO ANIMALS FROM START TO FINISH...ONLY TIME I AM ASHAMED TO BE AUSTRALIAN
